Mole Removal

Skinsite offers patients the convenience of onsite surgical treatment facilities where mole removal is performed under local anaesthetic and patients can usually go back to work the same day. We use plastic surgical techniques to remove moles, and, where possible, dissolving stitches are used so that patients do not need to return for suture removal.

All lesions removed that are suspicious for melanoma and skin cancer are sent to the laboratory for histological reporting. Results are usually available seven days after the procedure.

In accordance with recommendations from the latest Clinical Practice Guidelines for Melanoma in Australia and New Zealand, we aim for a 2mm margin when removing moles. Punch and shave biopsies are only performed in carefully selected clinical circumstances.

Also note: moles should not have liquid nitrogen or other modalities such as hair removal lasers or IPL applied to them, especially if they are bleeding or unusual.

Because the Skinsite skin doctors also have interests in cosmetic medicine, patients have the assurance that consideration to aesthetics will be taken in all surgeries and removals. In addition to traditional excision methods for moles, Skinsite offers cosmetic mole removal using Radiofrequency technology in order to minimise scarring.
